For many people, this news has been disappointing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find other ways to escape for a relaxing getaway.  We’ll take a look at several top cultural hot spots that would make a great getaway spot closer to home.

First Things First

Before embarking on a trip, it’s important to assess the risks. Do you or anyone in your family have serious underlying conditions that could make COVID-19 more dangerous? Are you traveling to an area that has been reporting an increase in cases? Are restaurants and other facilities open in the area?  All of these questions are important factors. If you decide the risk level is low enough and you want to get away for a few days, be sure to research and follow all state and city procedures to prevent spreading the virus and protect you and the people around you.

Preparing to Travel After a Canceled Trip

Do a Risk Assessment

Before deciding to take a trip near home, you should consider the risks to you, your family, and the other people you will inevitably encounter. If you or anyone in your household has a serious medical condition, it’s best to skip the trip for now and make the best out of a staycation.

If you have any symptoms, no matter how minor they may seem, you should definitely remain home to avoid the virus spreading further and avoid the potential of passing it along to others. For anyone who has been in contact with a person who tested positive, it’s essential to get tested and then quarantine until you receive your results before planning to go on a trip.

Hit the Road

If you’ve determined it’s safe for you and your family to travel somewhere nearby, and you’re prepared to take all the proper precautions, consider taking a road trip. Spending time in close quarters can be a great way to bond together, and it helps you to avoid airports. Because so many people are going through airports every day, touching many different things along the way, and because of the recirculated air on planes, you have a higher chance of contracting the virus than if you travel by car. Pick a place that’s not too far, or pick a few spots to stop at, and pack up the car.

Plan a Camping Outing

Camping is another excellent activity to engage in during these uncertain times because it’s relatively easy to keep your distance from other campers. You’ll also be spending a majority of your time outside, which reduces the chance of catching COVID-19. On a camping trip, you’ll have an abundance of things to do like hiking, swimming, and fishing.

Take a Beach Getaway

Beach trips are another great way to escape this summer without traveling too far. Find the perfect South Carolina beach rentals where you and the family will have everything you need right at your fingertips: the beach, the sun, food, and a comfortable place to relax. You don’t even need to leave the property if you just want to spend a few days soaking up the sun.

Put Together Your Bucket List

If you’ve decided you don’t feel comfortable traveling right now, that’s okay. It’s important for everyone to do what is best for them and to make sure everyone in their family feels safe and protected. You may feel bummed about your big overseas trip being canceled, but take this opportunity to plan for the future, even if you are planning a local getaway for now. Seriously consider your bucket list destinations and start creating plans to make those dreams eventually come true.
