Why a USA Kid’s Staycation is Great for Summer

Staycation Travel Tips

The USA is a vast and diverse country, and it’s no wonder that most Americans take staycations rather than go abroad on their holidays. For those who live in the USA, it is almost impossible to run out of places to visit with kids. If you are looking to stay close to home this year and soak in all that the USA has to offer, here is why the USA is an amazing place for a staycation with kids.

Theme Parks

If your ideal holiday is fun-packed and thrill-inducing, the USA has a wide range of resorts and theme parks to choose from. Orlando, Florida is the hub of the theme park action, with resorts such as Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld based here. From riding Disney’s classic rides showcasing your favorite movies, to the ability to spend a day at Sea World with the dolphins and other exciting marine life, there is something to engage every child’s imagination in Florida. Not only this, but Florida is also home to some of the best water parks in the country, allowing you to combine thrills with sunbathing, with Disney resorts such as Typhoon Lagoon containing a lazy river, exciting slides, and a wave pool.  But that’s just one destination of many.  Waterparks and amusement parks are located throughout America, so why not plan a multiday visit to one near you.

National Parks

Children love to be outdoors, and you can let your child indulge in their adventurous side by visiting one of America’s astonishingly beautiful national parks. See the jaw-dropping sights of Yellowstone, where you can see geysers and spot wolves and bears in the same park or the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada in Yosemite, where you might be lucky enough to see a mountain lion or bald eagle. The diversity of these National Parks makes visiting a great idea to teach your children about biodiversity and the importance of environmental protection while you camp, swim and hike in some of the preserved beauty spots of the USA.  You might be surprised to learn that there are over 400 national parks in America, so there are sure to be a number close to you that are worth a visit.

Historical Monuments

Even though America is a relatively new country, there is no shortage of historical monuments that you can use to bring history alive for young people. Boston is a great place to start your historical journey in the USA, with the Freedom Trial including Faneuil Hall and Paul Revere’s house giving kids a fun insight into American Independence as they explore the city, and it’s free to experience.  If you want to teach your children more about Presidential history, you should head to Washington D.C, where there are dozens of memorials such as the Lincoln Memorial and Franklin Roosevelt Memorial to commemorate the history of the USA as we know it.  Many areas have historic reenactment living history villages including Plimouth, MA, Surturbridge Village, MA, Williamsburg, VA, Amish Acres, IN, Old Wold Wisconsin, and many more.

Exciting Cities

If your kids love the hustle and bustle of city living, head to New York on the East Coast or kid-friendly San Diego in the West, to New Orleans in the South, and Chicago in the North; immerse yourself in the pulse of the city. In New York, you can experience the sights of Time Square at night, see a Broadway show, or shop until you drop, whereas Los Angeles will see you visiting memories of Old Hollywood such as Paramount Studios, the Walk of Fame, and the Chinese Theater.  No matter the big city experience you select, you’ll find world-class museums and parks, and entertainment.
