Effortless Skincare Routine for Chic Travellers

You’re enroute, but you don’t want to look like the perpetually wary, haggard traveller. In fact, you want to look downright chic, cool and confident on your travels, but — since you’re travelling, you don’t want to have to tout along every item in your beauty bag. Fair enough!

With spatial economy and skincare excellence in mind, here’s a skincare routine you can use while travelling to look amazing, while travelling light.

Step 1: The Cleanser

From pollutants to excessive time spent without being able to wash off your makeup to sweat and general travel grime, your enroute beauty regime begins with an amazing quality cleanser. Your first order of business is to choose a cleanser for your skin type: be it sensitive skin, oil skin, mature skin, dry skin or blemish prone skin. Next — and precisely because of all the pollutants and toxins you’ll encounter travelling — you are going to want a cleanser packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals found in the environment (and in subpar beauty products) and help keep your skin looking smoother, cleaner and younger. Antioxidants to look for include green tea extract, berry extracts, vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol and retinol. Look for these on the labels.

Step 2: Tone

We’ve already mentioned how the rigours of the road can affect your skin. To provide an extra dose of cleansing while also preparing your skin for moisture and restoring your skin’s pH balance, bring along a travel bottle of toner. This will further strip away free radicals while also replenishing your skin with a deeper layer of moisture and cleansing pores to prepare for your next step: hydration.

Step 3: Moisturiser

A little moisturiser can go a long way to bring life back into your skin. Bring a quality moisturiser for your face, hands and body. You’ll need it to fight the effects of dry airplane cabin air and exposure to the elements. If you want a one-step, total body moisturiser, look no further than your pantry. In addition to be intensely hydrating, coconut oil has antioxidant properties that can fight those nasty free radicals while it’s UV protection can also help prevent sun damage. Keep in mind, however, coconut oil only has an SPF of 5, so if you are going to be in the sun for a long time, use a moisturiser with a built in SPF of 30 or more.

Another bonus of coconut oil? It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, so can also be used to fight acne.

Step 4: H20

One of the most important — and often most neglected — part of any beauty regime is staying hydrated. Getting enough water can be challenging at home, forget about on the road when your schedule is disrupted and you don’t always have access to refreshment as and when you want it. Not only should you bring a reusable, heavy duty, thermal water bottle that you keep replenished throughout your trip, but you should make sure you drink exactly as much as you should be. To know what that is, take your body weight in pounds and divide it by two. That’s how many ounces of water you should drink.

Even though drinking enough water is listed as the final step, you should view it more as a perpetual effort on your part. And don’t worry about having to go to the loo more enroute: people who drink a lot of water regularly adapt to it, and don’t have to use the bathroom excessively. However, if you’re not drinking enough water now, when you’re travelling is probably not the time to start. Get your body used to getting its fix of water a couple weeks before you hit the road, take to the skies,  set sail on the open seas or hit the rails through scenic countrysides.

That’s it!
With minimal beauty supplies you can look radiant, anytime, anywhere. Use this simple and effective travel skincare regime for happy  — and beautiful — travels!
