Grateful Getaways! Four BnB’s for a Wonoderful Thanksgiving Escape – it’s not too late to pamper yourself.
One of the most delicious days of the year is so close you can almost smell the turkey and all of the fixings in the air. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to celebrate what’s meaningful in life as you’re gathered around friends and family, filling up on delicious food, drinking wine, and sharing laughter. But if there’s one thing that every cook on this holiday can tell you, it’s that it sure is a lot of work. Thankfully there are many bed and breakfasts willing to do all of the cooking and cleaning for you. Whether you want a cozy feast in the Berkshires, an all-day family affair complete with leftovers to take home, or even skip out on the traditional turkey all together, here are four inns offering no-fuss options for the big event.
Brampton Bed and Breakfast Inn, Chestertown, MD
This year, join in on a Thanksgiving tradition at Brampton Bed and Breakfast Inn in Chestertown, MD. All of the cooking will be taken care of, which means that you can enjoy a relaxing, stress-free couple of days and wonderful food. Innkeeper Rachel Hanscom emphasizes the importance of a communal Thanksgiving celebration, “Serving breakfast is always a warm experience, but there is something special about the warmth during the holiday season. Thanksgiving really brings the guests together, and by the end, we all start to feel like close family friends.” With a two-day package starting at just $580 (plus tax), you’ll be taking advantage of the inn’s cozy lodging, a full breakfast each morning, and Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings for two.
Chestnut Street Inn, Sheffield, IL
Not a fan of the traditional turkey dinner? No need to worry! Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, IL is famous for serving up their annual Turducken Thanksgiving dinner, and innkeeper and chef Monika Sudakov creates a unique menu that often puts a non-traditional twist to the Thanksgiving norms. Chestnut Street Inn truly serves as a “home-away-from-home,” and there is always room for guests at the inn. “My favorite thing is offering the opportunity for those who may not be surrounded by family during the holidays,” says Monika. “We are their adopted family for the day. Most people won’t prepare a big meal like this for just a couple of people, so we do it for them.” For $39.95 per person, guests will be able to feast on everything from Apple and Bacon Soup and Mixed Greens with Roasted Pears to Pumpkin Cheesecake with Vanilla Ice Cream and Gingersnaps.
L’Auberge Provencale Bed and Breakfast, White Post, VA
Kick off the holiday season right and let the talented chefs at L’Auberge Provencale Bed and Breakfast’s onsite restaurant, La Table Provencale, cook for you. Each year, they make sure to seek out the most reasonably raised, local, free-range, and organic turkey to baste and roast for the perfect holiday meal. “We bring the tradition of an American Thanksgiving to Provence, without a passport,” says Ashlyn Walderman, assistant innkeeper at the inn. The turkey is served, of course, with classic sides that are creatively paired and plated by an innovative culinary team. A special pre-fixe, five-course menu ($98) will be available alongside their chef’s tasting menu ($125). After dinner, a gourmet turkey sandwich is made available for you to take home and enjoy the next day (or for perhaps a midnight snack).
Holladay House Bed and Breakfast, Orange, VA
The tradition of welcoming others to Thanksgiving dinner has been one continued for countless years by the innkeepers at Holladay House Bed and Breakfast in Orange, VA. “When I was younger, our family always had folks without family who lived near us over to our house so that they could dine with us on Thanksgiving,” says Sharon Elswick. “Thanksgiving at our place gives folks without family nearby a place that’s comfy, cozy, and filled with smiles and great food.” For just $49, guests enjoy a full meal complete with local ingredients, wine, and beer. Many have returned year after year for Thanksgiving dinner…“But only if we agree to make our pumpkin cheesecake with a gingersnap crust!” she adds.
