1837 Cobblestone Cottage BnB – Worth Traveling To The Finger Lakes For

1837 Cobblstone Cottage

Sometimes you come across an inn that is so delightful, you feel like you’d like to move right in.  That’s exactly the experience we had at the 1837 Cobblestone Cottage Bed and Breakfast in up-state New York.

1837 Cobblstone Cottage

We first learned about the 1837 Cobblestone Cottage from our friends over at BnBFinder.com, when they shared an article about Top Beer and Wine Trail Getaways.  After reading about the beer and wine trails in up-state New York, Clint and I decided to make Canandaigua a stop on our Boston to Denver road trip this summer.  Canaddaigua is both a town and a “finger” lake located just south of Rochester NY, about a five 1/2 hour drive from Boston straight out Rt 90 – the Mass Pike.

Canandaigua (cannon-day-gwa) was the ancient gathering place for tribes of Iroquois Indians and it’s name means “the chosen place” because of it’s great beauty.  We were delighted to find such a wonderful destination and had a great time visiting vineyards, breweries and lakeside attractions.  Our home-base for our visit was the 1837 Cobblestone Cottage Bed and Breakfast which is worth the trip all by itself.  Kathy and Joe have done a remarkable restoration of this charming homestead that is located conveniently on West Lake Road.

The front porch sitting areas are the first glimpse of the congenial comfort that awaits within.

The common areas, living room and dining room are bright and cheery and spotlessly clean.

More comfy sitting areas for guests around every corner.  Don’t miss the snack baskets and homemade cookies that tempt you on your walk through the inn!

Our bedroom (the honeymoon suite) was spacious, elegantly furnished, and we particularly loved the original works of art.  Bathroom was modern, with jetted tub, spotless and roomy.

Kathy is a wonderful cook!  Breakfast was a feast with 4 courses, fruit and muffin, egg dish, waffle or pancakes, AND dessert – my favorite was the mini strawberry shortcake – yum!  Good thing Canandaigua is a great hiking destination.

Canandaigua Lake

We had lots of fun sightseeing around Lake Canandaigua.  The highlight was an escorted winery and brewery tour by Crush on Canandaigua.  Our driver Gary kept us entertained for the whole day and we sampled lots of delicious beer and wine while he did the driving and area commentary.  Our lunch stop at the New York Wine & Culinary Center was an extra treat.  I’m planning to return to take one of their “Hands-On” cooking classes and perhaps attend one of their imaginative chef guided dinner events.

If you’re looking for a wonderful destination that has beautiful rolling mountain vistas, lakeside dining and boating, and dozens of vineyards, wineries, distilleries and cideries to visit, you can’t do better than the charming town Canandaigua.   And a stay at the 1837 Cobblestone Cottage Bed and Breakfast will leave you feeling pampered and relaxed with memories to cherish.  This would make an excellent choice for a fall foliage road trip!
