Come to be pambered, stay for the history and traditions

Saybrook Point Inn Connecticut

With holiday stress is behind us, now is time to relax and rejuvenate for the New Year, and we’ve found the perfect place for a mid-winter indulgence, the Saybrook Point Inn in Connecticut.  The Inn is located between the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound with one of the most breath-taking views in Connecticut.   You’ll feel the warmth and hospitality the minute you walk through the doors.   For more than 25 years, the Inn has been owned and operated by the Tagliatela family, where attention to detail and customer service are exceptional.

About The Area

Fort Saybrook

We spent the day with Stephen Tagliatela, who took us on an amazing tour of Old Saybrook and shared its history. Old Saybrook was one of the earliest settlements in America (1635) and the original home of Yale University. Sitting directly across from the Inn is Fort Saybrook Monument Park, where the first Military installation in the US stood. Cypress Cemetery is fascinating and is one of the oldest continually operating cemeteries in the country. A Putt-Putt course was created directly across from the Inn which depicts Old Saybrook as it once was with reproductions of the early buildings. For those of you who are bird watchers, they have the largest nesting Ospreys in North America.

About The Inn Experience

Saybrook Point Inn Guest Room

The Inn is surrounded by beautiful sculptures made by local artists and the beauty continues when you enter the Inn.   If you are there on a weekend, you might find Mary Tagliatela, the 86-year-old matriarch of the family, busily checking to make sure everything is just perfect.   Mary is busily making sure every detail is covered to welcome all the guests, and I can confirm not one thing is out of place.   You immediately feel as if you are the most important guest of the house.   The 82 rooms are beautifully decorated making sure you feel as if you are guest in Tagliatela family home, and equipped with the state of art ecofriendly lighting equipment. You can feel the stress melt away the minute your eyes take in the impressive views.

Fresh Salt Restaurant, CT

The Fresh Salt restaurant which enjoys a scenic view of Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River, is complete with roaring fireplaces and a salt-water fish tank, with feeding times listed on the side. Their menu is unique as they work with local farmers and artisans to match each entrée with delicious parings of local ingredients.   I consider myself an oatmeal connoisseur and Fresh Salt’s oatmeal was one of the best.   Each meal was better than the one before and if you like sushi, you must try the Fresh Salt Sushi Tuna Triangles, the serving is more than enough for two.

Saybrook Inn Brunch

The Sunday brunch contains an omelet, pasta, Asian and carving stations. The aroma is intoxication as you wander through the two rooms of delicious delicacies.  The wait staff was friendly, courteous and always helpful.   The dining experience is exceptional, no matter which meal you are enjoying. Even if you cannot stay at the inn, a journey to experience their restaurant is well worth the drive from anywhere in New England.

The newly renovated heated indoor salt-water pool and fitness center is open daily and offers up to 25 fitness classes a week.   The Fitness center is open to the community and has a separate entrance from the outside. The Inn makes its own chlorine so there are no caustic chemicals. A beautiful Sikorsky Fan whirls above.

During the summer, you can enjoy the Marina Bar and be surrounded by the pier sculptures.

To complete your stress-free experience make sure you partake in one of the Sanno Spa’s services.   The 11-room spa offers a wide array of services from body treatments from massage therapy, facials, body wraps and scrubs, manicures, and pedicures. The perfect way to spend a girlfriend weekend or a special anniversary. Make sure you call ahead to book your treatments and confirm once you arrive, the spa books very quickly.

But the luxury and pampered experience doesn’t end there…  Recently the Saybrook Point Inn has added two additional properties, Three Stories and Vacation Rentals. Three Stories deserves a dedicated article, so read our full review.  Whether it is for a night or an extended getaway, there is no better place for a Wicked Good escape than the  Saybrook Point Inn.
