Great Oktoberfest Celebrations in America 2014
On October 12, 1810, Bavaria celebrated Prince Ludwig’s upcoming nuptials to his bride with the citizens of Munich, Germany. The celebration took place in front of the city gates and included copious amounts of beer, food and games. It was so much of a success that they decided to host the event again the following year. Fast-forward 204 years and the tradition of Oktoberfest is not only celebrated in Munich anymore, it has traversed countries and continents snowballing into a world-wide event held every October.
The United States loves their beer, food and games just as much as Germany. Here’s a look at fun Oktoberfest celebrations across America:
Situated in the heart of the seven parish region of Louisiana, Robert’s Cove, a small community in Rayne will be celebrating its rich German heritage during Germanfest. Held on October 4 & 5 this year, visitors will be treated to live entertainment, authentic German food and a large selection of German brews. At the 19th Annual Germanfest, Folklore dancers and singers will grace the stage and attendees will get a demonstration from the Blacksmith Association.

Celebrating its 18th annual Oktoberfest on October 3 – 5, Stowe will be transformed into a Bavarian village while supporting a worthwhile cause. The celebration kicks-off with live music on Friday and the Grand Parade taking place on Saturday. The parade will lead attendees up Mountain Road where tents filled with Bavarian food, signature Vermont beers and Oompah bands await them. Activities for children include face painting, pumpkin decorating and a bounce house.

For the last 44-years the event has taken place in the Helen Festhalle, where German-style bands from all over the world set the cheerful mood.
