Ever wonder why your garden doesn’t look as wonderful as the professionals? Well then, you won’t want to miss the 23rd Annual Tour des Fleurs Festival in Half Moon Bay, California, where professional gardeners and farmers share their secrets of success and gardening tips with festival participants.
Every summer, garden enthusiasts throughout Northern California wait with anticipation for the Annual Tour des Fleurs festival in Half Moon Bay, California. Located just over a half-hour drive from San Fransisco Bay, the Half Moon Bay area has been known for it’s dramatic beaches, redwood forests, robust ocean fisheries, and verdant growing fields. The Half Moon Bay area has an abundance of natural attractions including white sand beaches, dramatic surf, coastal hiking trails, and an vibrant organic farm-to-table community.
In it’s 23rd year, this once-a-year event allows festival goers to meet in-person with some of California’s most successful nursery operations, farms and wineries, which are not usually open to the public. On July 26, 2014, six different behind-the-scenes tours will be offered, and participants can register for three one-hour encounters that run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets for an entire day of learning are just $20. It should go without saying that comfortable walking shoes are a must, as tours wind their way through a variety of terrains. Many of the tours will include helpful tips on pruning and caring for plants as well as some fascinating family histories and their ‘secrets’ of success. Full tour information, registration and to purchase tickets in advance are available at www.hmbchamber.com
And after a day of roaming through fields of lovely growing plants and produce, you will no doubt end the day with a healthy appetite. Consider purchasing a ticket to the First Annual Farm to Table Dinner taking place later the same day. A limited number of participants will partake in a fabulous five-course (100% gluten-free) dinner prepared by renowned local restaurants utilizing organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats, virgin olive oil, honey, artisanal cheeses and more. One long festive table will be set at Farmer John’s Home and all participants will arrive by hayride! The price is $250 per person and includes a special commemorative basket filled with local produce. For reservations phone 650-726-8330.
So don’t delay, reserve your tickets for a day of gardening education in one of the countries most beautiful areas. And say hello to Maureen (our West Coast Writer) who is very excited to be attending, and will be writing a full trip report on her memorable day!
