How many times have you returned from a busy touring vacation and thought, “Oh man, I need a vacation from my vacation”! Taking a luxury one-way cruise to or from your vacation destination may be the perfect solution.
A growing number of cruise lines are expanding their one-way itineraries. Once called repositioning cruises, that is not their sole purpose any longer. Cruise lines have recognized that travelers enjoy transiting from to their home port to a far away vacation destination.
Carnival Cruise Line recently announced the addition of one-way cruises from New York to the Caribbean. Beginning in October 2014, the Carnival Splendor will sail from New York to San Juan, taking a leisurely 8 day transit, visiting St. Thomas, St, Kitts, Anguilla and St. Maarten on the way. These one-way voyages may be booked in either direction.
If Europe is your destination of choice, you might want to consider hopping on one of these one-way itinerares – all prices are quotes available on RepositioningCruise.com at time of article publication:
Boston to Amsterdam, departing July 13, 2013. Holland America Veerdam will be sailing out of Boston to Amsterdam right in the middle of peak travel season in Europe. The 17 night cruise visits Newfoundland , Greenland, Iceland, Denmark and Norway on it’s Atlantic ocean transit. Cruise rates are for $2,999 per person for an inside cabin.
Berlin to New York, departing September 2, 2013, the Emerald Princess will begin an amazing 24 day, 10 country journey visiting Sweden, Finland, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland and Canada on its way to New York. Prices are from $3,788 per person.
Copenhagen to Savona Italy, departing August 31, 2013, Costa Luminosa will depart Denmark on a 10 day voyage visiting London, Paris, Vigo Spain, Lisbon Portugal, Ladiz and Malaga Spain on its way to Italy. Rates start at $829 per person, making it approx $83 per person per day.
Rome to Ft. Lauderdale, departing October 31, 2013, Holland America Lines Noordam will sail a 15 day itinerary visiting ports in Spain including Alicante, Malaga and Cadiz, and Ponta Delgada in the Azores. You’ll have plenty of time for reading and playing cards as this cruise spends 10 days at sea. But with the price of $799 per person, you would probably spend more money per day at home. That’s just over $100 per couple per day!
Ft. Lauderdale to Rome, Departing April 20, 2014, for the same pricing!
Seattle, Washington to New Orleans, Louisiana, departing September 14, 2013. This may be my favorite one yet. Norwegian Cruise Line, Jewel will sail 29 nights visiting Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallerta, Huatu Ico, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Cozumel and finally arriving in New Orleans. Prices per person begin at $2,729, less than $100 per day!
As you can see these one-way voyages are affordable if you can expend the time to take a leisurely cruise to your destination. You might want to keep an eye out for these great one-way cruise adventures.
