Discover The Natural Side of Cyprus

A holiday in Cyprus can be full of surprises.  Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Turkey,  is the perfect place for a sophisticated beach holiday with a touch of historical culture. Paphos is the prime location for experiencing the ancient side of Cyprus and has many wonderful sights to see. Paphos Harbour offers stunning views of the Medieval fort that overlooks it. The best time to visit is during the summer festival when the sounds of opera echo around the ancient walls.

The Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station is a natural attraction that is well worth visiting whilst you’re in Paphos. This beach is an area of conservation where turtles lay their eggs and their nests are protected. It is quite tricky to get to but if the stunning views and warm sea weren’t appealing enough, the chance to see some endangered creatures in their natural habitat surely will be. The best way to reach the Conservation Station is in a 4×4 hire car as the track road is quite uneven. Give yourself a day to enjoy this attraction and it is bound to be a peaceful and unforgettable place to visit.

The beaches in Paphos are stunning and watersports are a popular pastime for holidaymakers. The Akti Beach Village Resort offers attractive accommodation in a peaceful seafront location right next to the beach. Visitors certainly won’t be short of things to do during their stay.

Exploring the unspoilt landscape of the island is possible on foot or in a hire car. The Akamas Peninsular is a good place to escape the central tourist areas and enjoy the natural landscape. The area has picturesque woodlands of pine trees and is known for its stunning wildlife and rare, endemic flora. The peninsular stretches from the harbour at Agios Georgios, north of Paphos, to Chrysochou Bay and is ideal for a day of peaceful walking.

 Akamas Peninsular Hike

Whilst you’re in the Akamas Peninsular, make sure you don’t miss the Baths of Aphrodite. On the edge of the peninsular near Polis, there is an isolated freshwater pool which, according to legend, is where the Greek goddess Aphrodite bathed and enjoyed a romantic rendezvous with Adonis. Another wonderful site on the island is the Troodos painted churches, a collection of 10 exquisitely painted buildings dating back to Byzantine times.

Wherever you road in Cyprus you are sure to find beautiful views and amazing historical sites.
