Adventurous Saalbach Holidays Deliver Excitement and Beauty in All Seasons
Saalbach (also known as Saalbach-Hinterglemm) is a quintessentially beautiful Austrian municipality located near the city of Salzburg that offers some of the most spectacular skiing in Europe and is a wonderful winter holiday destination. However thanks to its beautiful green mountains, visitors flock to the area in the summer and autumn as well. Saalbach especially attracts campers, hikers, and mountain bikers looking for an exciting holiday. Thankfully it’s easy to find Saalbach, Austria holidays at Inghams.co.uk.
Regardless of the season, the majestic Alpine mountains bring people to this western part of Austria. A short drive from W.A. Mozart Airport in Salzburg, the area is home to a number of resorts, and features six- and eight-person chairlifts, taking skiers up mountains that sometimes exceed 2,000 meters. With over 200 kilometers of pistes, or groomed skiing trails, Saalbach has played host to the Alpine Ski World Championships, and is treasured as an adventurous winter escape by amateur skiers too. The hiking can be just as thrilling as the skiing. In summer and autumn, there are 400 kilometers of walking paths for visitors to explore, and the local tourist office also has information for thrill-seeking trekkers who want to test their limits and hike the area’s highest peaks. After a long day of doing just that, there are even 40 ‘alpine huts’ where hikers can stay the night and rest their feet.
Mountain bikers have it just as good. There is a 720-kilometer network of bike trails and paths around the region, trails for all skill levels (including single-track trails, downhill trails and a ‘training course’ trail), a marathon and half-marathon route, and five mountain lifts available to transport bikes up and down the steep slopes. If one needed any more proof the area is serious about mountain-biking, look no further than the fact that the World Games of Mountain Biking are held in Saalbach, as well as the ‘Freeride Festival’. There are even guided mountain biking tours, classes, and bike-friendly huts if a return to civilization must wait.
Tired yet? Because the area offers a high-ropes course (Austria’s biggest), a zip-line (those brave enough will glide 100 meters above ground at 70 kilometers per hour), tobogganing (anytime of the year), and tubing in a river. And there’s hardly even time to discuss the ‘free-ride scooters’, an adventure in its own right. Saalbach holidays are exciting and breathtaking anytime of the year — yes, even in the warmer months. Much more information on the area, including photographs and accommodations, is available at www.saalbach.com.
