It’s almost unimaginable to think that dining in France could get any better, but thanks to a fresh new initiative led by legendary chef, Alain Ducaisse, France launched a national food festival week. In celebration of the abundance of exquisite local ingredients available throughout France in the fall, restaurants in Paris and all across the country will introduce Restaurant Week menus beginning on September 19th. From bistros, and brasseries to Michelin-starred restaurants, participants will offer two price-fixe meals for the price of one from 9/19-9/25. Meals will include an appetizer, main course and desert. The national event is called Tous au Restaurant, meaning Everyone To The Restaurant, and a full list of participating restaurants throughout France can be viewed at tousaurestaurant.com.
But that’s not all… on September 23, 2011 (first day of fall) the Fete de la Gastronomie will feature imaginative celebratory events across France. A sampling of events include:
- The ultra-luxury hotel group Relais & Chateaux will open their kitchens to the public and offer a class to prepare a traditional French recipe.
- Stop by a local market for a FREE cup of fresh soup. Participating markets all across France will be preparing a soup from their freshest ingredients and offering free samples in specially designed souvenir mugs.
- Boulangerie-Patisseries are preparing special breads for the celebration.
- In Paris there will be tasting kiosks a the the international airports featuring local cuisine.
- Rallye Cuisinez will coordinate a culinary treasure hunt where teams of 4 participants will embark on a ten-step hunt around Paris.
- The district of Burgundy will host unique picnics in vineyards, chateaus, and wine houses.
