The interior of the Statue of Liberty will be closing for about a year for safety and security upgrades on November 1, 2011. This means the coming summer will be the ideal time to take the family on a tour of lower Manhattan and a visit to the Statue of Liberty. The estimated $26 million dollar renovation will include the addition of elevators, fire-proof staircases and additional exits. Currently only 10 visitors at a time are permitted to make the trip up the staircase to the crown due to safety concerns. A good strategy is to purchase your tickets in advance from NYCTrip.com who will be running interior access tours right up until October 31, 2011.
