Grand Canyon Mule Trains To Be Dramatically Reduced

If the iconic descent by mule train from the lip of the Grand Canyon to Phantom Ranch at the base of canyon’s floor has always been on your ‘someday’ list, you’d best start making your reservations now.  The National Park Service has announced a dramatic reduction in the number of mules allowed to traverse the popular Bright Angel Trail, limiting the number  from 40 to just 10 mules. Erosion of the trails and expense of trail maintenance is cited as the reason for limiting future impact.  It has always been essential to reserve space on mule train excursions well in advance, but now it is advisable to make your reservation more than a year in advance.  (
