A Hauntingly Good Fall Apple Crisp Recipe

The Captain Lindsey House Bed and Breakfast in Rockland, Maine is not only one of Maine’s premier inn experiences, but it is so comfy that spirits from past generations just don’t want to inhabit anyplace else. Recently a “spiritologist” reported that Captain Lindsey himself is still in residence as well as 35 other friendly spirits who seem to gather in the parlor

Try A Ridiculously Good Pasty from Butte, Montana

Try A Ridiculously Good Pasty from Butte, Montana

A yummy treat from my visit to Butte America: Land of Mullets and Pasties  When visiting Butte, Montana, you will quickly discover that you are not, in fact, visiting Butte, Montana, but rather: you are visiting Butte, America.  Or, so the locals here tell me.  Also, to clear up any confusion from the very start, […]

Gingerbread White Chocolate Chunk Cookies

I was recently in Newport, RI to attend the gala Newport Winefest (see my trip report).  While there I did a bit of shopping at the Newport Mansions Gift Shop and met Cookbook Author,  Diane Perry Gardner.  Diane was doing a book signing of her wonderful cookbook, What’s Cooking In New England.  I promptly bought […]

Susan’s Maine Blueberry Muffins

Susan’s Maine Blueberry Muffins

This week I’m traveling to Maine where we’ve just finished picking our blueberry harvest. One of the great joys of owning property in Maine is the wild blueberries that grow everywhere in profusion. Stop along any sunny roadside in mid-to-late July and you’re almost guaranteed to find wild blueberry bushes laden with tiny wild berries .

Garlic Soup a New Orleans Classic

Garlic Soup a New Orleans Classic

We were staying at the Dauphine Orleans Hotel on Dauphine St. just across the street from the famous Bayona Restaurant. A leafy courtyard first attracted us as we strolled past; the adjacent old stone house had been converted into a restaurant. Only later did I realize that this was THE Bayona, one of the relative newcomers on a short list of five star places, tucked snugly and alphabetically after Antoine’s and Anraud’s and followed by the redoubtable Brennan’s.

Conch Crepes – A Delicious Taste of Turks & Caicos

Conch Crepes – A Delicious Taste of Turks & Caicos

Bay Bristo is one of my favorite spots on Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos. Clint and I discovered it many years ago when it was a sleepy little cafe´ just two steps above the sand. We stopped by again a few months ago and it’s charm has only increased over the years. Their unpretentious ambiance and spectacular view is always mesmerizing.

Dream-Worthy Szechwan Shrimp

Dream-Worthy Szechwan Shrimp

Visiting Tokyo, I was still a bit startled when our host took us to a Chinese restaurant, where we had course after course of truly wonderful Chinese cuisine. The dish that kept me dreaming though, long after the suitcases had been stowed away back at home, was a slightly spicy shrimp that shone above the rest. It pursued me even as I pursued it, and although I couldn’t snag the recipe that day, I was confident if I was relentless enough, one day I would find it.

Paris By Pastry – Exquisite Madeleines

There are so many iconic French foodie experiences, it’s hard to know where to begin.  Surprisingly it’s often the simplest ingredients executed to perfection that produce the tastes we crave long after returning from a trip to France.  While many famous French confections ooze with butter and sugar, the simple Madeleine is two bites of […]
