Cupcake Camps – For The Love of a Luscious Little Treat

August 10, 2010 by Susan · Leave a Comment

CupcakesThe cupcake craze has swept the world faster than tales of Lyndsay Lohan’s latest rehab relapse.  Who could predict when Carrie and Miranda first visited Magnolia Bakery to indulge in cupcakes and gossip, it would start a petite cake renaissance that would reverberate to distant shores and neighborhood stores.  Even the Food Network is pushing the envelope of cupcake creations, raising them to pop icon status.  And really.. who among us can resist a tempting little cake topped high with sweet creamy goodness?  I mean how many calories could it possibly have????

Now comes word of a new movement in cupcake devotion – Cupcake Camps, a one day social gathering to share, eat and pay homage to these delightful gems. Cupcake Camps are being held across the globe, with most raising significant funds for a charitable cause.  Participants typically enjoy waves and waves of cupcake tastings and competitions.  What a hoot it would be to participate a Cupcake Camp during your travels!

Coming up this fall are Cupcake Camps in Memphis, London, Washington DC, Tallahassee, Charleston and many more cake loving cities.  Pay a visit to CupcakeCamps.org for access the full Worldwide Cupcake Camp Directory and if there are none near you… take heart, there are step by step instructions explaining how to put on a camp of your own. In the spirit of French indulgences, I say, “Let Them Eat Cake” – mini ones!

You May Have Hated Leona, But You’ll Love Her Restaurant!

We’ve found an outstanding New York Neighborhood Restaurant at the NY Helmsley Hotel – So good, it’s a not to be missed experience!

“This is our home – our hotel, we take care of it,” is the Helmsley mantra and true in every sense of the word.

NY Helmsley Hotel‘Wicked’ is not a restaurant reviewer, but occasionally we discover a restaurant so remarkable, we would be remiss not to share it with our readers. Leona’s at the Helmsley Hotel is such a discovery. During our recent stay at the New York Helmsley, we were invited to dine in their newly renovated restaurant and bar – Leona’s. Say what you want about Leona Helmsley, she understood outstanding service. I have stayed at the New York Helmsley numerous times and every time the service has been consistently outstanding. This trip was no exception from check in to check out the service was impeccable. Leona’s restaurant was outstanding – a memorable experience and well worth writing about.

The Green Grass Of Wimbledon Comes To New York City – Play For Free!

Here’s a great New York City sightseeing tip for everyone visiting in June.  The British Bank, HSBC, is sharing a bit of Wimbledon excitement with New York City this month as it presents “Wimbledon at Rockefeller Center” from Monday June 21st through Friday June 25, 2010. The best part about this tennis packed week-long celebration is all the festivities are FREE! Whether you want to tap into the excitement of the simulcast Wimbledon matches, take advantage of a pro tennis clinic, or simply indulge in the Wimbledon tradition of eating strawberries and cream, you’ll find it all in Rockefeller Center during opening week of Wimbledon.

No longer do you have fly to England to join in the excitement of the most acclaimed tennis tournament in the world.  For 133 years Wimbledon has attracted the elite of the tennis world to compete on it’s grassy courts.  Now, thanks to HSBC, you too can test your volley skills on a replica grass tennis court in the heart of New York City.  Beginning on Monday, June 21, 2010 from 7am until 7pm (and continuing through the week), spectators can reserve court time on the replica grass court, take a clinic with pros from Prince, request a racket restringing, play Wii Grand Slam Tennis thanks to EA Sports, and even pose with a virtual Wimbledon Trophy.  To kick off the celebration, tennis greats Jim Courier and Monica Seles will play with selected fans on June 21st from 12:00 – 1pm.

The venue is in Rockefeller Center between 50th & 51st Street, between 5th & 6th Avenue.  You can reserve singles court time by calling 212-525-2367, or take advantage of walk-in tennis clinics by Prince on June 22-25 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm, and 4:30 – 6:00 pm.  Get a schedule of all the clinics and activity times  by visiting HSBC/tennis.
