The Berkshires Are So Much More Than Tanglewood

The Berkshires Are So Much More Than Tanglewood

The Berkshires Are Much More than Tanglewood, and fall is the perfect season to go exploring.

We have discovered there is more to Lenox, Massachusetts and The Berkshires than Tanglewood. Don’t get me wrong, Tanglewood is a beautiful place to enjoy music and the outdoors; however, there is so much more to see and do in the Berkshires.

Play Fair New York – The Willy Wonka of Toys and Play

Play Fair New York – The Willy Wonka of Toys and Play

Play Fair in New York Is The Ultimate Play and Toy Experience, Consider It The Willy Wonka of Toys and Play

In early February, WickedGoodTravelTips was invited to attend the first annual Play Fair and Toy Fair (http://playfairny.com and http://toyfairny.com) at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. With my husband and son in tow, I headed to Manhattan on the coldest day of the year so far. This experience was like being a kid in a candy store, but instead of candy, there were toys, play activities, and everyone’s favorite characters from favorite shows, plus so much more. If you have children, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Great Wolf Lodge Massachusetts – Hype vs Reality Trip Report

Great Wolf Lodge Massachusetts – Hype vs Reality Trip Report

While we don’t often post negative reviews, I feel we need to warn you that Great Wolf Lodge Massachusetts falls short of the Great Wolf reputation in the rest of the country. Let’s begin at the beginning, the registration lines were wrapped around the entrance and it had to have taken at least hour wait for the check-in process.

Three Stories Inn, Saybrook CT – Bring The Whole Family

Three Stories Inn, Saybrook CT – Bring The Whole Family

Discover the story behind the historic Three Stories at the Saybrook Point Inn.

This stately Victorian Italianate was originally built in 1892 by William Vars, a train engineer who brought visitors from Hartford to vacation on the Connecticut shore. The home fell into dilapidation when owned years later by Marie Clark. Stephen Tagilatela would walk past the grand house every day and watch the house crumble. Wanting to restore the home and maintain the history, Stephen purchased the house and renovations began on The Stories.

The Franklin Institute has constructed a 53,000 sq. ft. expansion, the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion, to house an amazing innovative exhibit – Your Brain. This exhibit allows visitors explore the inner workings of their brains. Visitors can test their brain’s ability to multi-task with a driving simulator, or walking under a piano that is hanging dangerously low in order to illustrate the way fear is represented in the brain. A neural light show displays the neural connections as visitors step on floor panels or climb up an 18ft structure. Explore Essex MA – Where New Historic Walking Tour is a Treat

I recently gave myself an indulgent present on my birthday and spent a wonderful day exploring the quaint town of Essex, Massachusetts with my husband. I must say it was one of my best birthdays ever. Essex is located north of Boston in Cape Ann,bordered by Gloucester and Rockport. Although I’ve driven through many times, I had never stopped to explore. Visit Connecticut’s Fan Favorite – Niantic, For A Great Seaside Getaway

Visit Connecticut’s Fan Favorite – Niantic, For A Great Seaside Getaway

The State of Connecticut recently ran a “Fan Favorite” campaign for residents and visitors to vote for their favorite town in Connecticut. The winner was the charming town of Niantic, a village of East Lyme, located a short distance from Mystic. I had never been to the Connecticut shore, so just had to see what everyone was raving about. My visit just so happened to coincide with a visit by Governor Malloy who was presenting the town with a video. It all started with a video the town submitted to the Fan Favorite contest, have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM0tROLWfVY . After one day in Niantic I knew exactly why this wonderful small town was voted Connecticut’s favorite town.

Historic Deerfield For Lovers of Antiques and Early American History

Historic Deerfield For Lovers of Antiques and Early American History

Meandering through the lovely village of Historic Deerfield reveals a fascinating glimpse at life in colonial America that is amazing, beautiful and extremely educational.

Approaching Old Main Street, we immediately became time-travelers dropping in to peer at life from 1673 to the 1800’s in the Pioneer Valley. We strolled narrow streets and experienced the sights, smells and hospitality of yea olde New England. English settlers traveled to this incredibly fertile land to farm, establish a settlement at the edge of civilization and raise their families.

There’s No Place Like Maine For A Summer Getaway – Sunshine, Beaches, Boating and Lobster

There’s No Place Like Maine For A Summer Getaway – Sunshine, Beaches, Boating and Lobster

Throwing caution to the wind we decided to try to escape to the coast of Maine during the busiest week of the summer season. Summer doesn’t officially begin in New England until July 4th, and this year a heat wave only heightened everyone’s desire to getaway. Finding a last minute room anywhere in Maine during the July 4th weekend was unlikely, but after scanning a few bed and breakfast sites, we were lucky to grab a room at the Dockside Guest Quarters in York Maine. This is truly one of the most picturesque and quiet settings in the York Harbor/ Ogunquit area. The inn is located on Harris Island and affords their quests beautiful waterfront views.

We were looking for peace and quiet and busy hotels and 4th of July crowds were not for us during this weekend getaway. We arrived while the inn was setting up for afternoon tea which offered quite a delicious spread, and the view was breathtaking.
