For most people on the go, the airport usually means early mornings, long lines, and uncomfortable seats. But there are a few airports across America that strive to deliver all the comforts of home, including a really great meal. These restaurants offer fine dining amidst all the hustle and bustle of traveling traffic.

UFood Grill

This healthy option stands out in the crowd because they offer fresh and nutritious items like real fruit smoothies, Bison burgers, wraps, and salads. They also offer a number of hearty breakfast options for those early morning flights. Sure, the Cinnabon smells tempting, but these fresh ingredients will give you the energy you need to get through your travels. You can find them in multiple airports, like Massachusetts’ Logan Airport, and Texas’ Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport.

Ebisu

If you’re interested in more international cuisine, Ebisu in San Francisco International Airport offers travelers everything from specialty hand-roll sushi to ramen and tempura. Sushi in an airport might not sound too tempting, but the ingredients are high quality and always fresh. Frequent flyers rave about the tempura shrimp udon.

Jim Neely’s Interstate BBQ

A trip to the South wouldn’t be complete without some serious BBQ. Whether you’re just flying in or heading home, Memphis International Airport has your BBQ needs covered. From a whole rack of ribs, to pulled pork, or if you need something a little lighter, they also have a BBQ salad and BBQ nachos. Be warned, this is not a grab and go snack. You won’t be able to eat as you run to your flight, so plan to come early and sit down, or keep it in the bag until you’re on the plane. Oh, and don’t forget the napkins.

Brasserie La Vie

One of the busiest airports, New York’s JFK, has some amazing fine dining for you to choose from. Brasserie La Vie is a great escape from the stress of traveling, because it transports you to the French countryside with classic dishes like Onion Soup Gratinee, Croque-Monsieur and Trout Amandine. They also offer breakfast dishes like Eggs Benedict and brioche French toast. Do yourself a favor, and come early for this one.

The Berghoff Cafe

This legendary Deli in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport was opened by a German brewer, and offers a variety of full-bodied beers on tap and in bottles. They pair perfectly with their hand carved roast beef, turkey and ham sandwiches or the Reuben, which is their house specialty. They also offer a number of hearty breakfast sandwiches and omelets for the early birds.

So whether you’re a business person on the go or heading off on a family vacation, you don’t have to sacrifice good food to save time. Do yourself a favor and arrive early enough to sit down, relax, and enjoy one of these fine dining options. You’ll thank yourself later when you’re not crashing from a sugar high or dealing with heart burn in the middle of your flight. What are some of your favorite things to eat at the airport?
