Tips for Road-Tripping to Sunny Warm Weather

Categories: Featured

Many people dream of taking a winter road trip towards better weather.  It doesn’t have to be a dream!  If people knew how easy it was, more might actually do it. Some simple tips make road tripping to better weather stress-free and the easiest vacation you could dream of.

Road Trip to sunny warm weather

The best tip I can give is to rent and tow a small camper trailer. The trailer provides an inexpensive place to stay that comes with you so you don’t have to keep packing and unpacking at every stop. It also has the added benefit of allowing for a more unique experience. Many people enjoy the trip as much as the destination because they spend it roasting marshmallows by the campfire and waking up each morning to the great outdoors. Once you get to your destination, you can set up your camper and do the same activities, just with different scenery and better weather!
More generally, the most important way to ensure easy traveling is planning. That starts with establishing a realistic budget. This will determine where you can afford to go.  If you’re in New York, it’ll be cheaper and easier to get to Florida than to get to Vegas or Southern California.  Personally, I’d advise you to pick a less trendy destination in the South like Charleston or Hilton Head island in South Carolina or Savannah, Georgia, so that when you tell your friends and family about the trip, you’ll have something to say that they haven’t heard a million times before!
The South in general is full of historical attractions from the time of the Civil War.  Whether it’s huge plantations or famous battlefields, you’re sure to find something that interests you.  But the South is not all about the Civil War. The beautiful beaches are a great spot to relax with friends and family alike.  For more sophisticated travelers, you can also check out more modern war museums like the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum or the stunning South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston or the Old Town Trolley Tours in Savannah.
The South is also renowned for its nightlife.  When I went to Savannah on my trip, I went to the Savannah Smiles Dueling Piano Saloon.  It reminded me of the dueling banjos scene in the movie ‘Deliverance’ and is not to be missed!  I have also heard good things about the Hilton Head Comedy Club, but I’ve yet to go there myself.  If you’ve been, please share your thoughts in the comments below so we can all benefit from your experience.
You also have to plan for safety and regulations.  Certain states don’t allow passengers to stay in the trailer while in motion.  In such a case, perhaps an RV is a better bet.  Otherwise, just be sure you have one of the B&W trailer hitches so that your trailer doesn’t get detached and roll away.  There’s simply no quicker way for an awesome vacation to get off track (no pun intended).
If you take a trailer to a more popular destination, it is best to call ahead and make reservations so that you know there will be an available spot at your destination. Make sure you not only store those numbers in your phone, but have them on paper as backup. You can scout the internet or pickup a camping guide from an automobile club to find campsites.  Otherwise, you can really camp out in a field if you’re the nature-loving type.
Like with any trip, packing can be stressful if done at the last minute.  Make sure you compile a list of all the items you’re going to need so that nothing essential is forgotten. This depends on the goal of the trip and can include mountain climbing gear or just a bunch of clothing.
Next, make sure everyone in the vehicle knows the rules. Make the car a no bickering zone! Bringing things to do like games, DVDs, or reading materials can only help. Most importantly, don’t forget to pack the snacks. People tend to get cranky when they don’t eat, and food on the road may be more expensive than it has to be if you think ahead.
Once you’ve done all the prep work, tell your boss you’re taking off, get going, and enjoy the road!
