Solo Travelers Finally Get A Break

Tourist Taking Picture2008 brings good news for folks who are solo travelers. Several major tour companies have announced fare reductions for ‘single occupancy’ travelers. These folks have always been saddled with hefty surcharges, often amounting to paying double for their trips. Now as this demographic grows, tour companies are making an effort to bring prices down.

The well respected Tauck World Discover Tours has announced they are reducing prices on 44 different departures on River Cruises and tours in the United States, Europe and Canada. Solo travelers can expect to save up to $1,100 off standard single pricing, with the average price reduction being $600. Abercrombie & Kent are also offering discounts to solo travelers of $500 on trips during November and December of next year, if travel is booked by the end of January 2008. Backroads, who specialize in active adventures, have several trips dedicated to Singles and Solos. Travelers who book a trip more than 30 days in advance can request a roommate pairing. If no other solo traveler is found, the single room is provided at no extra charge.
