Tales of a merry yuletide weekend at Inn Britannia in Searsport Maine. This year we decided to head north to Maine in search of a snowy Christmas instead of flying out to Denver to be with the boys. GOOD CHOICE OR WHAT? You may remember that the Denver airport was closed for days, stranding thousands of Christmas travelers – not my idea of a good holiday! Although we didn’t find snow in Maine, we did find an exceptional English style country inn that spoiled us with spectacular food.

Camden In Winter

Tucked along the picturesque mid-coast of Maine, Searsport beckons all lovers of cozy Inns, seafaring restaurants, jumbled antiques stores, beautifully restored period homes and craft stores with products actually made in Maine (not Asia!). Where else in the USA can you drive for miles and miles enjoying magnificent coastal views right from the highway? (US Rt 1) No high-rise hotels, no gated communities, no billboards, just heart-melting glimpses of half moon bays peppered with schooners of yesteryear bobbing merrily away.

Maine Beach I found Inn Britannia on Pamela Lanier’s Bed and Breakfast site. This is a wonderful site for finding Inns and B&B’s with special interests. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, visit the Romantic Inns section for some mid-winter romance inspiration. Or click over to the recipe section to find a yummy dish to make your Valentine’s Day at home extra delicious.

Inn Britannia proved to be a delight – filled with everything “British” from holiday ornaments to cupboards overflowing with colorful tea pots lovingly brought back from England by owners Caren and Susan. Located just out of the village of Searsport, the inn is perched on over 5 acres of land and offers a winding path down to a quintessential rocky Maine beach. As lovely as the inn was, the meals were simply scrumptious. I’m not getting near a scale for at least 2 weeks! Check the inn out yourself at Inn Britannia.Com
